David Harness

David Harness is one of the most popular DJ/Producers in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene. He has been described as “a man who lives, breathes and emanates everything that is beautiful about house music.” There are few DJs of his caliber today who attract the loyalty and admiration of music mavens – locally and internationally.

Funk and soul have always been strong elements in David’s sound. He began DJ’ing in his hometown of Monterey, California. As his popularity grew past the city boundaries he established San Francisco residencies at The Sound Factory and Club Dv8. In 1994 his success as a club DJ led him to co-host the radio show ‘Your Mama’s House,’ on the San Francisco Bay Area’s number one radio station 106 KMEL FM. As part of the only “true” house mix-show on any major radio station in Northern California, David played a key role in exposing House Music to the masses.

1995 kicked off David’s seven-year home-stay as headliner at the notorious Club Universe – San Francisco's hottest Saturday night party. At Club Universe, David played with many New York’s Legendary DJ’s like Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, Little Louie Vega, Tedd Patterson, David Morales, Danny Teneglia, London’s Ricky Morrison. His accolades as a DJ have been endless since, from ongoing residencies at The End Up for Fag Fridays and Sunday T-Dance - San Francisco 's longest running dance party to starting an intimate weekly DJ showcase of spirit and soul called Taboo.

David’s growing popularity accelerated his natural progression into production. He was selected to spearhead the studio production for a national marketing campaign for the McDonalds. His CDs have offered us an insight in his range. In 1998 he released the CD “Welcome to the Universe” for Universe Sounds and Twisted America, reflecting San Francisco ’s unique “sound.” Twisted America quickly signed him to produce his first single, “Get It Together”, for a Twisted America compilation entitled ‘A little Bit of the Old, A lot of the New’.

In 2000, David launched DHJ Productions, and has established himself as a respected producer and remixer. To date, David has worked on projects featuring artists such as Mary J Blige, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Floetry, India Arie, and Donnell Jones. A collaborative effort with DJ/Producers has resulted in several independent releases. David has appeared in articles and interviews in Billboard Magazine, Paper Magazine, Surface, URB, and numerous other music industry magazines. His passion, talent and creativity, has definitely created a new page in the history of House Music.
